Chanel Mystery Woman

Last friday was the last Chanel Pop-up event on 가로수길 (Garosu-gil). Although it was held at the same location as the previous week, the set up was completely different.

If you are wondering about the title of this post, it refers to a fabulous yet intimidating older woman that was present that night. She was dressed head to toe in black, including an incredible coat with a popped collar that was almost vampiresque. Her mannerisms and the way she would only crack the slightest smirk every so often made me think of her as an Asian Anna Wintour. When I asked to take a picture of her, she looked at me, gave me THE smirk, and then turned her head back to the manicurist. I decided to take it as a yes? 

My friends and I also struck up a conversation with Chanel's head makeup artist for the Asia-Pacific region. He offered to do my friend Molly's makeup and we all watched him work his magic. I was speechless at how talented he is. And at how fast! What he did in 10 minutes would have taken me 45 and it wouldn't have looked half as good.

Chanel and Champagne

I've been so neglectful of my blog... I promise I'm coming back with many posts to come!

Last friday my friend brought a few of us to the 3rd week of the Chanel pop-up store which was on 가로수길 (garosu-gil), one of my favorite streets in Seoul. 

The atmosphere was really great, people were not as dressed up as I anticipated but still looked really great. I guess I'm used to people trying to outdo each other at fashion-related events *cough* montreal fashion week *cough*. 

Free champagne and Hors d'oeuvres. Countless Chanel cosmetic products to play with. Art made of lipstick tubes, brushes, etc. A Chanel claw crane. Gift bags with a flower arrangement. But best of all, people thinking we were models and snapping paparazzi shots of us... sorry were just white girls...

Bring me back to 4

There are a few things that I am a sucker for when it comes to taking pictures. If you look through my albums, you may notice that there is a significant number of pictures of cute children, cute couples, and cute objects that are somehow related to either of those.

Here are some of my favourite shots that I took while in Beijing last month.

Seeing all these little ones all bundled up and being carried made me want to turn back the clock and go back to the days where I was forced to dress warmly and could be carried and hugged everywhere I went.

Ditan Park － 地坛公园

During the Chinese New Year in Beijing, there are many huge parks that turn into fairs filled with food stands, performances, and activities for all ages to enjoy.

The best part is trying the foods that give you a chance to taste many different parts of China's specialties. I even found many desserts reminding me of middle eastern food, like the sesame crackers that taste exactly like those my grandfather has been giving me since I was little.

Ditan Park is located right next to my favourite dim sum restaurant and is usually relatively calm and quite. I had never imagined it being so festive and full of people.

Light up The Sky

The first night of the Chinese new year here in Beijing was absolutely spectacular. From 7 pm until daylight the next morning, fireworks and firecrackers were going off nonstop all over the city. It actually sounds like a complete war-zone. The fireworks are in these big boxes that you light and run away from just in time. As for the firecrackers, they leave behind thousands of little red cartridges and the day after new years, there are huge heaps of them along streets.

The most incredible thing is seeing all these fireworks that go off almost in the middle of intersections! I'd love to see the Montreal police respond to that one...

Overall, I never thought it would be as amazing as it was. I thought Disney had pretty good fireworks. . .

Designer Hong Bao

Spending Chinese new year in Beijing has been one of the most amazing experiences ever. I'm used to spending summers in Beijing and so it has been amazing to see the difference between summer time and winter time in this city. As I've been busy every day trying to soak up all the new year festivities, I've fallen behind on what I would like to post.

On new years eve day, I went shopping to catch some of the big sales. I walked into The Gap and was handed an envelope. Then I realized it was an envelopes full of red envelopes (红包 hong bao - usually filled with money and given as gifts for the new year). 

Unfortunaly, they were empty... 

But overall I thought it was a really cute gesture made by The Gap.

...Even though I wish it had been somewhere like Alexander Mcqueen giving them out. Imagine designer hong bao?!?! I think I'm on to something . . .

Semo Namu

Sunday I stayed at a Pension called Semo Namu. Pensions are beginning to be very popular in Korea and the best way that I can describe them is that they tend to be beautiful getaways that might look like villas and that are relatively cheap.

Semo Namu is a little outside of seoul and is in a quite space away from the city bustle. There are only five rooms and each room is its individual modern looking fully furnished cabin. They even provide dinner upon request that is served on your mini private terrace. It's winter time so the pool is frozen over and being outside for more than 5 minutes isn't the most enjoyable but I bet summertime here must be really great too!
